Notified in 1990, the Bakhira Bird Sanctuary spreads over an area of 29 sq kms. It constitutes the Bakhira Tal, wetlands, Gram Samaj land and some agricultural land where people cultivate. More than 40,000 wintering Water fowl from over 23 species fly down to the sanctuary every year. Resident birds in addition to 5,000 Purple Moorhens and Swamp Hen nest here.
