This is the smallest Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh, covering an area of just 1. sq kms, but arguably one of the best as over 180 species of birds make their home here.
In winters, the shallow lake inside the sanctuary is transformed with the arrival of migratory birds, becoming a riot of sound and colours! The lake, fed by rainwater, dries up in summers,
Among the bird species which have been reported from here are Comb Duck, Cotton Teal, Lesser Whistling Duck and Spot-billed Duck. During height of winter in December and January, Patna Wildlife Sanctuary welcomes over 60,000 birds. Some of the most stunning winter birds who roost here include the Rosy Pelican, Lesser Flamingo, Eurasian Spoonbill, Mallard and Flat-headed Goose. The most common migratory bird here is the Northern Pintail, which outnumbers all other species.
